I see you by the door, love.
I can see your smile—how your eyes light up, just like always. You’re standing there, waiting for me to open up. My heart skips, and for a brief moment, I feel excited, ready to share the day’s adventures with you. I want to tell you about everything like I always did.
But wait… let me blink. No, you’re not there.
You were never there.
My mind is playing tricks on me again. It’s been happening more and more since you’ve been gone. The illusions, the whispers of a life that’s no longer real. I miss that smile that used to greet me through the glass door when you’d come home from work, so full of joy. The way your face would light up just seeing us, like no time had passed.
Now I just stare at that door, waiting for a knock that will never come. Hoping, for just one more glimpse of you, even though I know better. I know you’re not coming back. But still… I keep waiting.
The door remains silent. Just like this house. Just like the space you left behind.
I miss you.
